Fishing Games and other Fish
I fuckin' love fishin. Way too much, and that even comes over into video games especially. Recently in my retro-console adventures I've been playin more and more fishin games. So here's how I feel about one's I've played enough to form an opinion on.
SEGA Bass Fishing
Dreamcast
The gold standard for retro arcade-style fishing games, imo. Sega loved this system so much they've used it repeatedly and honestly, it's kinda turned my Dreamcast (which has many wonderful and varied games) into the Sega Bass Fishing Machine.
SEGA Marine Fishing
Dreamcast
It's not SEGA BASS, but the addition of online features for tournaments and FISH MAIL (mail where you can only send if via fish and read via catching said fish) is what makes it wonderful. Also it allows me to fish up rays, which're my fav.
Reel Fishing III
PS2
Like how Sega Bass is for arcade fishing, this is the Gold Standard for relaxin-style fishing. The game is perfect in terms of atmosphere, feelings, and never fails to calm me down. While the focus on "vibes" sometimes can carry over to the actual mechanics, there's something soft about it that makes me look past any issue.
Pro Fishing Challenge
Original XBOX
THE TUTORIAL IS AN HOUR LONG and YOU WILL NEED IT. Atlus decided to make a very realistic fishing sim and you will like it. And be overwhelmed. And like that. It's stupid. I love it.
